The Roanoke Times is very stingy about which stories they post online, and I don’t see the one I’m looking for… This morning, though, they quoted GWB as saying that Reagan was the greatest president of the 21-st century. (That’s not exact, but I think you understand.) Now, this could have been an error in the Roanoke Times, but I doubt it. Did anyone see this quote in another source? Would someone like to notify the president that Reagan was president way back in the 20th century?
Incidentally, although Reagan’s legacy is complex, I think he was a great president in many ways. I am especially enamored of his foreign policy, which stands in stark relief to that of the current administration. Reagan is the first president of my memory, serving in that office for a large portion of my childhood. (I realized that I was old when I realized that freshman college students have little or no memory of Reagan as president.) His baritone voice and uniquely American optimism are, for me, the very definition of what it means to be presidential.
