I will be out of town for 8 of the next 11 days. I don’t know how much online access I’ll have during that time, but given my inability to monitor the blog and the messy business yesterday, I have decided to turn comments off, at least until my return.

Someone with the alias of “Bubba” decided to continue the gender discussion under the burrito thread. I have made this comment “invisible” for the time being. (Well, along with every other comment until I get back.) Some reasonable points were made, and I am partially responsible for things getting out of hand yesterday. I think there was some misunderstanding on both sides, and I said some things that I probably didn’t mean. (Lest there be any doubt, let me note that my desire to “throttle” another faculty member was hyperbole. Obviously I abhor such violence in the real world.) I’m tired of the online discussion for the time being, though, and Andy and I are taking things offline. If the personal details (and writing style, and IP address) which Bubba shares are true, then I think that I know who he is. I would appreciate it if he would take this up with me offline, too. (Under his real identity, though.)
