We took Becky’s car with the “Defend America, Defeat Bush” bumper sticker to Huntsville last week. On Sunday morning as I was packing our stuff in the car to head home, an old man, at least 80 years old, came up to me. “I like your bumper sticker!” he said. I turned around to see that he was wearing two buttons. One said, “Bush Divides Us” and the other “He Lied, They Died.” So I said, “And I like your buttons.” We talked for a few minutes, and then he went on his way. Still, it was an unexpected encounter in Alabama. Oh to be old and not give a damn what anyone else thinks.

My bumper sticker poll suggests that Bush is slightly ahead in the bumper sticker count in Alabama. He’s getting creamed here in Blacksburg, though.
