He’s Back

I started to subtitle the blog “A man, a plan, a blog: Mackenab.” But the main reason that I’ve decided to start writing publicly again actually has more to do with the lack of a plan than the existence of one. I’ve been flailing lately – contemplating my life and career, trying to figure out where I’m going. And a major reason that I started flailing was the realization that I had taken a lot of my favorite things from life and either cut them out altogether or started resenting them for the time they were taking away from my career. And that, my friends, is crazy. And one of the first things that I enjoyed but cut out when I got really busy with my career was my blog. So, the blog is back.

I, frankly, am not quite sure what this blog is about. I’ve been thinking about restarting the blog for a while now, but I kept putting it off until I could come up with a laser focus for what my blog would be about. You know, trying to find a niche where I could become the greatest blog in the known universe and make lots of money. (Ha!) But, that isn’t going to happen, at least not in the near term. So, for the moment, this blog is about the things that interest me. And, frankly, one of the things that I like about myself is that I’m a generalist, a tendency that my career would like to squash.

So, this is a blog is about fatherhood, photography, travel, home improvement, politics, sailing, personal productivity, and running. It’s also about being an assistant professor at a research university (while doing these other things). And surely a few other things that I forgot. This is going to be fun.
