The Adventure Begins

Months ago, I announced on Twitter, Facebook, and, eventually, my professional website that I, along with my family, would be spending a year in Dublin, Ireland, starting in July. I’m on study-research leave from Virginia Tech for the year, and I’ll be a visiting faculty member at Trinity College Dublin, working with the wonderful people at CTVR, primarily on research.

I’ve thought a lot about what I want to accomplish personally and professionally during this time away, and one of my goals is to capture the year in pictures and blog posts here.

So, after months of preparation, today we loaded the van, finished preparing the house (which will be occupied by a family member), and set off. We arrived for dinner at my in-laws’ house in Frederick, Maryland. Tomorrow, we’ll spend some time on the National Mall, then fly from DCA to JFK connecting to an overnight flight to DUB. And so it begins…
