Monthly Archives: April 2016

Week in Review, 2016-W16.

(April 18, 2016 — April 24, 2016)

I admit to being a little bored with these posts. But I’m not in a headspace to think positive thoughts at the moment—with the time of the academic year that we’re in. I think that I’m going to stick with it for now. I think these will be a little more interesting once summer things start happening in a week or two. And I want to start posting more “regular” posts, too, so maybe that will happen soon, too.

Travel

  • Nope.
  • Upcoming: Ireland.
  • Becky was gone for most of the week (until Saturday). The kids were great; the week would have been great, too, but work’s in a bit of a high gear at this time of year.

Reading, Watching, and Listening

  • Caught up on Infinite Jest. Will finish it this week. All kinds of feels about it. (Is it as good as I remembered? I’m not sure. Would require a whole post, and I’m not sure that my thoughts are that well organized.)
  • Started watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 2 with Becky.

Family and Friends

  • As noted above, I was solo parenting most of the week. But between the kids’ school and wall-to-wall evening activities, it didn’t feel like I got that much time with them. (Somehow, working late every night after putting them to bed didn’t help, either.)
  • We did go out to eat at all the places that Becky doesn’t like, though, so that’s always fun.

Home Improvement

  • Hahahaha. No. I was given an ultimatum of June 17 on that headboard project, but I think that I can meet it.

Health and Fitness

  • Ran three times: Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Monday and Wednesday were on the treadmill, due to solo parenting. Saturday, after Becky got home, I ran a 10k (of my own devising). My longest run of the season, so far, I think, but I felt a little sluggish throughout.
  • Weight: 193.4.

Week in Review, 2016-W15.

(April 11, 2016 — April 17, 2016)

Travel

  • Nope.
  • Upcoming: Nope.
  • Some solo parenting started on Sunday, with Becky away.

Reading, Watching, and Listening

  • Fell even further behind on Infinite Jest. But started working on catching up over the weekend, so I think I’m only about two days behind now.
  • Watched the last episode of Mozart in the Jungle season 2 with Becky.

Family and Friends

  • Took the kids to the VT baseball game on Sunday. There was a softball game going on at the same time, and might have gone to that, instead, if I had realized ahead of time. Felt pretty exposed at VT’s baseball park. The nets behind the plate and over the dugouts aren’t very high, so you need to pay attention. And sure enough, a foul ball bounced about six feet in front of my daughter. (I saw that one coming down, and I could see that it wasn’t going to hit us, but I lost a few that were popped up, which made me nervous.) Anyway, got a wee bit of a sunburn, but it was a great afternoon to be outside. (The Hokies are not playing very good baseball, however.)

Home Improvement

  • I think I actually did something here this week, but now I can’t remember what it was. So that’s impressive.

Health and Fitness

  • Ran three times: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. On Saturday, I ran in the Run in Remembrance. Ran well, beautiful day, sombre occasion.
  • Weight: 193.4.

Week in Review, 2016-W14.

(April 4, 2016 — April 10, 2016)

Travel

  • Chicago, Tuesday — Thursday. Good workshop, pleasant enough trip, but didn’t have any time to recreate, really. When not at the workshop, was handling work from the home office. Didn’t sleep well on the trip, though, and got home ridiculously late on Thursday night.
  • Upcoming: Nope.

Reading, Watching, and Listening

  • And now I’m back to a couple of days behind on Infinite Jest.
  • Two episodes of Mozart in the Jungle season 2 with Becky. We’re almost through season 2, but apparently there is another season of Catastrophe already out and another season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt close behind. So, I think we’re covered for a while.

Family and Friends

  • Another quiet weekend.

Home Improvement

  • For shame!

Health and Fitness

  • Ran twice: Tuesday and Saturday. I got up to run on Thursday, but the hotel gym was full. A couple of hours later, when I started down the stairs of the “L”, I realized that my right knee was injured, so I’m not sure a run would have gone well, anyway. The knee hurt all day, but by Friday it was fine.
  • Weight: 193.6. This isn’t the Sunday weight, but I forgot to record that one.

Week in Review, 2016-W13.

(March 28, 2016 — April 3, 2016)

Travel

  • Nope.
  • Upcoming: Chicago. Oops. Seems I jumped the gun a bit on calling “Chicago” upcoming last week. Still upcoming.

Reading, Watching, and Listening

Family and Friends

  • Quiet weekend. N had swim lessons, C had a birthday party, and M went to a Girl Scout thing called World Thinking Day.

Home Improvement

  • Evicted a bird who got into the dryer vent. Twice. (On the one hand, I think said bird was thinking about nesting there. On the other hand, I’m not entirely sure bird knew how to get out after it got in.) Erected defenses to prevent the return of the bird.
  • Did the taxes. Finally. Maybe that’s not home improvement, really, but it’s in the category of non-work adulting things. So.

Health and Fitness

  • Ran three times: Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
  • Weight: 195.8. Ok. This is simply insane. I weighed in at 191.2 on Saturday. I admit this was my lowest weight in a while, but it was basically on trend for the rest of the week. And I ate more-or-less normally on Saturday, which is to say maybe marginally more calories than a weekday, but not 4.6 lbs more calories.1 Starting to lose confidence in the bathroom scale.

  1. For the record, that would be roughly 16,000 extra calories.
